Impish Arlecchino--	1
the spritely brown eyes	2
and curved cynic's smile	3
of a man who learned	4
and perfected pretense.	5
Child of Envy,	6
Child of Scorn,	7
you were cast adrift	8
in a scathing sea of ambition.	9
You, who would swim	10
rather than drown,	11
(they'd love to see that--	12
your body on the waves)	13
though you lose your tears	14
to the salty water.	15
When your feet touch ground	16
you will tell them, smiling,	17
"I am above you now."	18

And no one could argue,	19
standing quietly,	20
awkwardly,	21
bare feet in the sand.	22
