a handshake,

a grin,

a sly hand

sliding up

a skirted leg.

That’s love

on Valentine’s Day,

for the lonely souls
 9
who play at love
 10
but cannot find

the edges,

like chasing eggshells

in a bowl of cream.

Sometimes

I catch

a glimpse,

a taste,

just enough

to cause

my heart

to flutter,

conveniently

forgetting
